We will use synthetic enamel powder to learn different techniques that will allow us to add color, texture, and various finishes to our pieces.
About the workshop
What is Efcolor?
Efcolor is a low-temperature synthetic enamel powder that can be used on any metal, as well as on glass, wood, porcelain, and stone. There is a wide variety of
colors.
It melts and hardens at 150°C, making it perfect for use in conventional ovens or candle-powered stoves.
Advantages:
Quick and easy
Simple and inexpensive materials
Can be fused at home; no special equipment required
Can be applied to soldered pieces
Techniques and Specific Applications
1. Painting on metal with a matte finish
2. Grooves and bas-reliefs
3. Painting on textured surfaces
4. Covering a three-dimensional object, using glue
5. Covering wires
6. Painting with a brush, using a mixture of powder and glue
7. Dry color mixing
8. Black-and-white and color transfers
9. Three-dimensional transfers
10. Pieces with milled areas, incisions, letters, numbers…
11. Masking areas using tape, rice, noodles, organic materials…
12. Burning with a torch
13. Freehand drawing, laser engraving, or acid etching
14. Drawing with pencil, colored pencils, or watercolor on an enameled surface
… it’s all a matter of experimentation
The teacher
EVA MAZANA
Eva Mazana is a Spanish industrial designer and jewellery artist based in Barcelona.
She holds a degree in Industrial Design from Escola Elisava, as well as a Higher Degree in Industrial Design Engineering.
In 2014, she completed a Higher Vocational Degree in Artistic Jewellery at Escola Massana.
Her multidisciplinary background combines product design, jewellery, materials and craftsmanship.
She has developed her skills through numerous workshops in jewellery techniques, porcelain, wax modelling, ceramics and colour applied to metal.
Her work also explores the relationship between objects, people, space, light and materials.
