There are many techniques for adding color to metal: patinas, vitreous enamels, synthetic enamels... In this course, we will focus on another group of procedures: color application techniques which are based on the use of pigments and various binding media (acrylics, resins, glues...).

The workshop will be structured as follows:

• A brief introduction to the types of pigments, binding media, and solvents / thinners, exploring cold, torch-fired, and kiln-fired procedures.

• Basic procedures for applying the techniques.

• Variations, effects, textures and combinations of techniques.

• Experimentation and application, creating a sample chart with the different techniques learned.

• Finishing and protective treatments.

For each technique, we will explore the possibilities of:

• Application on flat surfaces and on volume.

• Application tools and utensils.

• Thicknesses, layers and scratching.

• Grooves, bas-reliefs and surface textures and reliefs.

• Combination with other color techniques (especially patinas)

• Combination with drawing and illustration techniques (graphite, charcoal, etc.)
